I came across this description on the monero website. It describes how to solo mine with the Monero GUI. In the last part it displays a screenshot where one can click on start mining and the text says:

You are now mining with the network, as you can see on the bottom of the image. In this example, the computer is contributing 23 H/s to the Monero network. Mining helps keep the network secure, and you may get lucky and receive a reward for protecting the network.

I am not sure if I understand this correclty. As far as I understand this only means that I am not withing a pool, but I am not mining monero coins directly to my wallet. I am providing my CPU power to make calculations and in return I get benefits for supporting the network. Did I understand this correctly?

How can I mine in such way that I am performing CPU calculations and in case I was able to "mine a coin" I get it directly to my wallet? Of course, this means I have no steady secure income, it will take days if not months until I get a coin.
